Rail News: Intermodal
As the supply of available intermodal equipment continues to shrink, a container shipping and logistics company is taking steps to ensure its equipment fleet is well stocked. Horizon Lines L.L.C. recently ordered 900 high-cube refrigerated containers, which are scheduled to be delivered in November. The company took delivery of 300 refrigerated containers in December.
Horizon Lines plans to spread the 900 containers across its network, which includes ports in Alaska, Hawaii, Guam and Puerto Rico.
"In recent months, we have added a crane and new terminal handling equipment in Hawaii, two new cranes in Puerto Rico and now 1,200 new refrigerated containers to our 5,000 unit refrigerated fleet to further reinforce our service levels" said Horizon Lines Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Chuck Raymond in a prepared statement.
Horizon operates 16 vessels and owns Horizon Services Group, which provides cargo management and tracking services.
