On Aug. 22, Canadian National Railway Co. will implement a new service plan that will enable the Class I to accommodate an additional 125,000 intermodal units annually, a 15 percent increase compared with current traffic volume.

The railroad will increase capacity for overseas containers moving between the Port of Vancouver, and Montreal and Toronto by more than 20 percent. CN also will boost capacity for domestic container moves between Toronto and Montreal, and major western Canadian centers by more than 10 percent

"IMX — CN’s precision intermodal product — has delivered significant service improvements to our customers, including the fastest intermodal transit times in the transcontinental Canadian corridor, as well as important improvements in the utilization of our intermodal cars and terminals," said CN Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing James Foote in a prepared statement. "Coupled with CN’s rail network capacity, these IMX benefits position us to accommodate rising demand for our intermodal services without the need for costly new investments in track or terminal handling capabilities."
