The North Carolina State Ports Authority yesterday received land lease approval from the North Carolina Council of State for Scoular Co. to develop an agricultural transload facility at the Port of Wilmington.

The facility — to be located at the port's general cargo terminal — will allow Scoular to receive, store and load agricultural products, ports authority officials said in a press release. The facility will be used to transfer bulk agricultural products to containers for export on ocean-going vessels.

The investment will aid in opening new export markets around the globe for North Carolina farmers, Scoular officials said.

Scoular will break ground on the facility in the coming months with an anticipated completion this summer.
