Yesterday, Russian Railways President Vladimir Yakunin gave U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood a presentation on Russia’s high-speed rail development program.
Railway officials showed the U.S. Department of Transportation delegation the Sapsan high-speed train and described Russia’s program to develop high-speed rail transportation in Russia through 2030.
LaHood’s reaction? He was “impressed” by the first Russian high-speed train, which was built by German and Russian engineers, according to the Russian Railways. LaHood also noted that the Russian and U.S. rail systems have a lot in common and said the Russian program is of great interest to the Obama Administration as it works to advance a national high-speed rail network.
