Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) recently named Gary Neward and Mary Schofield Nowee to serve as senior supervising architects in its San Francisco office. Both will help advance the California high-speed rail project. PB serves as program manager for the California High Speed Rail Authority, overseeing the implementation of the state’s 800-mile high-speed rail network.

With 36 years of experience in architecture, including more than 10 years in the design of transit and transportation facilities, Neward has served as project manager for public transportation projects for Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), the cities of Palo Alto and Covina, Calif., and the University of California at San Diego.

He also has served as architectural manager for the southern section of the Kowloon Canton Railway, West Rail Project in Hong Kong, where he managed the architectural development for the Nam Cheong station and West Kowloon passenger terminals. In addition, Neward was lead architect for two sections of the Taipei Mass Rapid Transit system and chief architect for the Kaohsiung MRT.

Nowee will serve as specifications manager for the California high-speed rail project. She’ll be in charge of managing the writing of standard specifications; managing specifications for the design-furnish-install systems contracts; and establishing guidelines for special provisions to be prepared by regional consultants, and transportation and transit projects.

Nowee has more than 35 years of architectural experience, with an emphasis on transportation and transit projects. She previously served as a specification manager and senior architect for a national engineering firm, where she worked on a variety of projects for BART, Caltrain, Metrolink, Dallas Area Rapid Transit and Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority.

From 1992 to 2000, Nowee was senior specifications engineer with PB, working on transportation and transit projects in San Francisco, Oakland, Millbrae and San Jose.
