The California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) last week announced the completion of the Whitley Avenue underpass in Kings County, opening it for motor vehicle traffic for the first time since September 2023.
The underpass is approximately 128 feet wide and 17 feet tall, allowing for two lanes of motor vehicle traffic in each direction under the high-speed rail corridor, CHSRA officials said in a press release.
The Whitley Avenue underpass is the second high-speed rail structure to be completed this year and one of 50 completed structures of the 93 total required for the project.
More than 60 miles of guideway is complete, and 171 miles of track are under design and construction between Merced and Bakersfield.
