Russian Railways recently ordered eight additional Velaro RUS Sapsan high-speed trains from Siemens. The $782 million contract also includes a 30-year maintenance agreement.
The 10-car trains are scheduled to be delivered beginning in January 2014.
Since 2009, Russian Railways has operated Sapsan trains on the Moscow-St. Petersburg and Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod routes at speeds up to 250 kph. The latest order will be used to meet high travel demand on the Moscow-St. Petersburg route, according to Russian Railways.
