CHSRA, federal agencies sign MOU to adopt sustainable practices

Last week, the California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Railroad Administration, Federal Transit Administration, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to work together to promote sustainability in the statewide high-speed rail system.

The MOU establishes a framework under which the agencies can build an environmentally sustainable system. The agreement defines common goals, identifies areas for collaboration, and defines expectations and terms for signatory agencies.

The agencies already have defined specified opportunities and developed a work plan, and “meet regularly to align efforts, jointly address challenges and share expertise,” according to a press release.

The agreement “brings a framework for working together to ensure that California’s high-speed train system lives up to its potential for helping protect the health of California’s residents and our state’s natural resources,” said Assemblywoman Cathleen Galgiani (D-Calif.) in a prepared statement.
