Rail News: High-Speed Rail

ELPC's Brubaker comments on preliminary National Rail Plan

Environmental Law and Policy Center Deputy Director Kevin Brubaker recently commented on the Federal Railroad Administration’s preliminary National Rail Plan, which was unveiled on Oct. 16. His comment are as follows:

"Americans are beginning to understand that rail will be a critical part of our transportation future. The National Rail Plan highlights the economic and environmental benefits of rail and creates a national framework to develop the president’s vision of high-speed rail in America."

"Historically, the Federal Railroad Administration has focused almost exclusively on safety, but its responsibilities have grown. By awarding $8 billion in high-speed rail grants, the agency will oversee the creation of a passenger-rail network that is good for jobs, business and the environment. The preliminary National Rail Plan is an important step in that evolution."
