The National Transportation Safety Board will hold a public board meeting Nov. 18 to determine the probable cause of the contact of the containership Dali with the Francis Scott Key Bridge and subsequent bridge collapse in Baltimore.

The Dali was transiting out of Baltimore Harbor on March 26, 2024, when it experienced a loss of electrical power and propulsion. It struck the southern pier supporting the central truss spans of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which then collapsed. Six construction crewmembers on the bridge at the time of the contact were fatally injured, one construction crewmember was seriously injured and one crewmember on the Dali was injured.

The incident resulted in the shutdown of the harbor's main channel for 11 weeks. The bridge collapse and port closure prompted CSX and Norfolk Southern Railway to work with customers, the Port of Baltimore and state officials to respond to shipment delays. Both Class Is provide intermodal service from the port, which is one of the largest in the United States.

During the Nov. 18 meeting, the NTSB members will vote on the findings, probable cause and safety recommendations as well as any changes to the draft final report. A synopsis of the board meeting will be available after the meeting concludes.

The complete final report will be available in several weeks on NTSB.gov. If the federal government is still closed on Nov. 18, the NTSB will not be able to livestream the meeting, NTSB officials said in a press release.
