The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating a July 18 derailment of a Norfolk Southern Railway train near Browns, Illinois, the agency announced on social media.

A total of 24 rail cars derailed, with some spilling molten sulfur. Two crew members experienced non-life-threatening injuries, according to local news media citing NS. The derailment caused the temporary shutdown of multiple roadways, including Illinois Route 15.

The incident occurred at about 7 p.m. July 18. Mount Carmel Mayor Joe Judge announced on Facebook that the area was secured by 5 a.m. July 19, and all first responders were released from the scene on July 20.
