APTA urges Congress to include additional transit funding in Build Back Better Act

A coalition of 45 industry partners, led by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), recently sent letters to congressional committee leaders and U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg seeking at least $10 billion in additional public transit funding in the proposed Build Back Better Act.

The letters also urged Congress to provide significant, dedicated high-speed rail funding in the bill.

"Providing this additional $10 billion of public transit funding will honor the commitment of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework agreed upon by President Biden and Senate Republicans on June 24, 2021," the letter to congressional leaders states. "The Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework included an additional $49 billion of new investment for public transit."

As passed by the Senate, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act includes $39 billion for public transit. The coalition urges Congress to honor the agreed-upon framework funding levels.
