CSX and its partners have started to re-lay track in the Blue Ridge Subdivision, a critical 60-mile stretch of track in North Carolina and Tennessee that was devastated by floods caused by Hurricane Helene in September 2024.
"It has taken roughly 10 months to get the roadbed ready for the track panel installation," said Kevin Haddix, CSX director of track, in a blog post last week. "It's important to CSX to get this line back open to restore fluidity on our surrounding lines."
At night, B&P Enterprises contractors set the track panels, and RailWorks and CSX teams make the electric flash butt welds during daytime shifts, Haddix said in a short video created by CSX.
The Blue Ridge Subdivision line handles approximately 14 million gross tons of freight annually, making it a critical line to the southeast region of the United States, CSX officials said.
