CSX to add, speed up trains in Indiana

CSX will begin transporting more and longer trains at faster speeds between Seymour and Butlerville, Ind., as early as Sept. 7, the Class I announced Monday.

The changes are aimed at improving capacity and efficiency along the corridor, CSX officials said in a press release.

Train speeds will increase from the current speed limit of 25 mph to a maximum 40 mph at many locations. Track and signal improvements were made to accommodate the higher speed.

The number and average length of CSX trains will increase and vary depending on freight volumes, railroad officials said.

Twenty-four public and private grade crossings will be affected by the changes.
