BNSF Railway has been granted temporary trackage rights over two rail lines owned by Union Pacific Railroad in its Oakland and Canyon subdivisions in Northern California.

Under a written agreement, UP agreed to permit BNSF to move empty and loaded ballast trains to and from the Elsey ballast pit, which is adjacent to the lines, according to a decision by the Surface Transportation Board.

The agreement provides that the trackage rights are scheduled to expire Dec. 31, 2026.
