The Surface Transportation Board (STB) yesterday ordered Union Pacific Railroad and Norfolk Southern Railway to redesignate certain employee data submitted to the board with their revised merger application.

In the revised application, submitted April 30, some employee impact information was designated as highly confidential; on July 2, several labor unions filed a motion requesting the board order that information be redesignated as public.

The information in question included details on how the merger would affect craft and management employees of UP and NS, including numbers of positions that would be abolished, created or transferred, and the job transfer locations, as a result of the proposed merger, STB officials said in a press release.

In yesterday's decision, the STB granted the unions’ motion and ordered that the redesignated employee impact information be filed with the STB by July 27.
