CN also broke its May records, moving over 2.96 MMT of grain and grain products last month. The company’s prior record of 2.54 MMT was set in May 2025. CN officials cited sustained export demand, ample grain supply and efficient operations across its network as responsible for the high volume.
CPKC has broken its May record for transporting Canadian grain and grain products, moving 2.9 million metric tons (MMT) in 30,324 carloads from western Canada last month, CPKC officials said in a press release. The company logged its previous May monthly tonnage record in 2020; it has now set monthly records in four of the first five months of 2026.
