CSX's wellness programs recognized by northeast Florida group

CSX Corp. recently was named one of several gold-level “First Coast Healthiest Companies” by the Jacksonville Business Journal and First Coast Worksite Wellness Council, the fourth consecutive year the Class I was honored in the gold category.

The group recognized the railroad for maintaining 36 health and wellness centers throughout its network to help employees manage and improve their health. The centers include licensed dietitians, health fitness specialists, wellness coaches, certified diabetic educators, registered nurses and ergonomists. In addition, CSX's Jacksonville, Fla., headquarters features a full-scale workout facility offering daily fitness classes and certified trainers.

Recently, the railroad embarked on a "Small Steps" program designed to promote healthy activity by rewarding employees who activate their company-issued pedometer and log the most steps in a 90-day period. CSX also supports a health and wellness inclusion group, one of more than 40 diversity and inclusion groups available to employees.

“Healthy employees are safe and productive employees, which is why we invest in some of the most cutting-edge health technologies and practices in our industry,” said Dr. Tom Neilson, CSX’s chief medical officer, in a prepared statement.
