CPKC launches US-Mexico customs solution for ag shippers

CPKC has developed a streamlined cross-border customs solution for agri-food and animal-based products moving between the United States and Mexico.

In collaboration with Mexico's National Service of Agri-Food Health, Safety and Quality (SENASICA), CPKC has established a new inspection process at its Puerta Mexico, Toluca, terminal. Eligible shipments now can undergo final inspection and certification at the terminal rather than at traditional border inspection points, CPKC officials said in a press release. The inspection facility uses advanced screening technologies with SENASICA personnel directly on site.

Previously, agri-food and perishable shipments required routine SENASICA inspections upon arrival in Neuvo Laredo or other border facilities. These inspections often created costly delays and increased risk of product spoilage, CPKC officials said.

The solution leverages CPKC's unique single-line network between the United States and Mexico and demonstrates CPKS's focus on removing friction from cross-border trade, they added. Nearly all eligible shipments for this solution originate in the U.S. Midwest and Canada on CPKC's Mexico Midwest Express service to Toluca.
