CPKC has selected its Winnipeg, Manitoba, yard as the railroad's 2026 Terminal of the Year for robust performance in safety and operations.
The yard is a pivotal interchange point for trains moving across North America, including those carrying freight from some of CPKC's largest grain suppliers. The yard's location and services are essential to the Class I's operations across its entire network, CPKC officials said in an online article.
Throughout 2025, the yard registered strong safety performance in several departments, achieving zero FRA-reportable train accidents for the second consecutive year. Compared to the prior year, the facility in 2025 handled 2.7% more rail cars; reduced active inventory within terminal boundaries by 6.7; improved trip plan handling success by 1.3%; and decreased terminal dwell by 7.4%, CPKC officials said.
"Winnipeg stands among a select few to earn this award twice," said Greg Squires, CPKC's senior vice president of operations-Canada and Northeast United States. "In a highly challenging operating environment, this recognition reflects the exceptional effort and commitment shown throughout 2025."
