CN this week announced plans to invest a combined C$765 million in rail infrastructure projects this year in the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Saskatchewan.

In Quebec, CN has budgeted C$475 million for track maintenance and infrastructure work, including projects to improve the efficiency of CN’s operations at its Taschereau rail yard in Dorval, as well as a number of information technology modernization projects, according to a CN press release.

Last year, CN spent C$633 million on track maintenance and infrastructure initiatives in Quebec, including C$27 million to upgrade its dispatching system and rail traffic control simulator. CN operates 2,014 route miles and employs 3,521 people in Quebec.

Meanwhile, in Saskatchewan, CN will spend C$290 million this year on track maintenance and infrastructure initiatives, including projects designed to improve the movement of grain and fertilizers. Last year, CN invested C$160 million on capital expenditures in Saskatchewan, where the Class I operates 1,845 railroad route miles and employs 1,152 people.

The 2025 investments in both provinces are part of CN's C$3.4 billion capital expenditures program.
