The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) recently contracted RailComm Inc. to provide a remote control and yard automation system for use in the agency’s West Falls Church Yard in Virginia.
WMATA is using RailComm’s Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) PC-based control platform to provide entrance-exit (NX) and stacked routing capabilities.
The DOC®:Yard application displays car location, switch position and, for NX routing, train traversing and route clearing. It also includes such features as ThumbTacks™, TrackTalk™ and Railroad Manager™. ThumbTacks™ enable users to create and manage notes within the DOC® System GUI while TrackTalk™ permits the ability to communicate electronically with other DOC® System users. The Railroad Manager™ tool allows management of resources, such as crew personnel, engines, cars and trains.
The system also has been designed with built-in expansion capabilities for adding workstations and/or field control nodes without interrupting the current system’s operation, RailComm said in a prepared statement.
