Updates from Ansaldo STS, Railpower, Bentley Systems and Harsco


• Ansaldo STS, through a joint venture by subsidiaries Ansaldo Segnalamento Ferroviario and Ansaldo Trasporti Sistemi Ferroviari, has been selected as the preferred bidder by the Turkish State Railways to design, build, test and commission signaling and telecommunications equipment for two line sections. A contract will be signed in November, Ansaldo STS said. The joint venture will provide European Railway Traffic Management System Level 1 wayside and onboard equipment, interlocking, CTC, telecommunication equipment and station loop extensions. Ansaldo STS subsidiary Ansaldo STS Australia also won a contract from Queensland Rail Ltd. to provide signaling infrastructure for a major coal rail network upgrade and expansion project.

• Railpower Technologies Corp. has sold two Eco-Motive ultra-low emission locomotives to Modesto & Empire Traction Co. The short line tested a demonstration unit for more than two weeks and determined it could replace three GE locomotives with one Railpower RP20BD unit and achieve fuel savings of more than 40 percent, Railpower said.

• Bentley Systems Inc. has appointed Baker Egerton to the newly created position of vice president-lead generation the marketing group. Most recently integrated marketing communications manager for Hewlett-Packard’s Global Desktop Solutions Organization, Egerton has more than 25 years’ experience in business-to-business technology enterprises, including a stint as vice president of marketing communications with Neoware Inc. Bentley Systems provides various transportation-related software, including railway maintenance products.

• Harsco Corp. won a contract to provide scaffolding for the exterior renovation of the Gare du Nord railway station in Paris — Europe’s busiest rail station and the world’s third busiest. The company will provide its Modex scaffolding system, which features a modular design that’s well suited to the station's ornate exterior contours and facades, Harsco said.
