Ohio commission OKs four grade crossing projects

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) last week approved safety upgrades at grade crossings in four counties.
The projects call for:
• CSX to install flashing lights and gates at the CR 48 crossing in Logan County by Dec. 14, 2023. Federal funds will provide $358,920 to complete the upgrades;
• Norfolk Southern Railway to install flashing lights and gates at the Oakwood Avenue crossing in Crawford County by Sept. 14, 2023. Federal funds will provide $403,179 to complete the work;
• Indiana & Ohio Railway to install flashing lights and gates and reconstruct the surface at the Dayton Avenue crossing in Fayette County by Dec. 14, 2023. Federal funds will provide $371,120 to complete the project; and
• Michigan Southern Railway Co. and Napoleon, Defiance and Western Railway (NDWR) to install flashing lights and gates at the West High Street crossing in Defiance County by Dec. 14, 2023. PUCO will provide partial funding for 80% of this project’s cost using dollars from the State Grade Crossing Protection Fund, while NDWR will pay 20%.
