UP caps off four-year crossing signage project

advertisement

Yesterday, Union Pacific Railroad announced it completed a four-year, $16 million project under which the Class I installed high-reflective crossbuck warning and emergency notification signs at more than 18,000 grade crossings in 23 states.

Each crossing sign includes a unique U.S. Department of Transportation number to help identify a motorist's location and toll-free phone number for UP’s Response Management Communication Center (RMCC) to call in case of emergencies.

During 2005’s first eight months, RMCC received 1,381 calls from motorists reporting a problem at signed crossings.
