Updates from Trainyard Tech, International Railway Systems, Boxcar Services and FTR Associates

The rail supply/service industry continues to churn out announcements on recent developments:

• Trainyard Tech L.L.C. obtained a contract from Norfolk Southern Railway to provide a new process-control system for Bellevue Yard in Bellevue, Ohio. Trainyard Tech will provide its CLASSMASTER™ system, which can run on the Microsoft Windows XP platform and features auto calibration, graphic playback, real-time hump list display, electronic track blocking and automatic report generation. CLASSMASTER offers a full-function wireless PC tablet option for remote yard control.

• European rail-car builder International Railway Systems won an $86.6 million contract from the Serbian Railways to supply 750 freight cars. The company will deliver the cars by year's end.

• Boxcar Services L.L.C. appointed Kip Curran vice president of rail finance. He has more than 25 years' experience in leasing and marketing, and specializes in rail-car and locomotive sourcing, acquisition and financing. Boxcar Services provides rail-car inventory and financial services to the rail and logistics industries.

• Transportation forecasting firm FTR Associates established a new consulting group offering expertise from transportation and logistics industry veterans. The group will provide products and services covering such topics as acquisition targets, capacity adjustments and product development. Group experts include Gross Transportation Consulting Inc. President Lawrence Gross, FTR Associates President Eric Starks, North American Transport Solutions Vice President Richard Kloster and economist Noël Perry, who specializes in transportation and logistics.
