Iowa DOT provides $4 million for 26 crossing projects

The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) recently approved a plan to provide $4 million to help fund upgrades to 26 grade crossings.

The projects call for installing or upgrading signals, installing flashing lights and gate arms, and placing yield signs at crossings without active warning devices.

Federal crossing funds will cover 90 percent of signal-related costs, with cities, counties and railroads providing the remainder. The Iowa DOT will fund yield sign costs.

The crossings are located on lines operated by BNSF Railway Co., Union Pacific Railroad, the Chicago, Central and Pacific Railroad/Canadian National Railway Co., Iowa Interstate Railroad Ltd. and the Iowa, Chicago & Eastern Railroad Corp.
