Alcatel to install CBTC for Vancouver rail line

Alcatel recently obtained a $29.7 million contract from engineering and construction firm SNC-Lavalin Inc. to provide communications-based train control for a driverless rail system in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Alcatel will provide automatic train control for the 11.8-mile Canada Line, which is scheduled to begin service in late 2009 between Richmond, Vancouver International Airport and Vancouver.

Canada Rapid Transit Inc., the Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority subsidiary responsible for implementing the project, selected InTransitBC — a partnership between SNC-Lavalin, BC Investment Management Corp. and Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec — to design, build, operate and maintain the line.
