BNSF adds Timber Rock Railroad to short line program

BNSF Railway Co. has added Watco’s Timber Rock Railroad (TIBR) to its Shortline Select program.

TIBR operates more than 50 miles of track between Kirbyville, Texas, and DeRidder, Louisiana, providing access to markets in east Texas and southwestern Louisiana. The short line interchanges with BNSF and Canadian Pacific Kansas City.

TIBR soon will begin a $50 million capital project designed to improve the short line's capacity and service reliability, BNSF officials said in a LinkedIn item posted yesterday.

Launched last fall, BNSF's Shortline Select program aims to provide expanded opportunities for customers to reach an even broader consumer base. The program also combines the benefits of short-line customized service with the Class I's vast network reach, BNSF officials say.

Other current program members are Alabama & Gulf Coast Railway, Burlington Junction Railway, Portland & Western Railway, Texas Northwestern Railroad and Red River Valley & Western Railroad.
