Amtrak seeks contractor interest in New Carrollton project

Amtrak is accepting letters of interest from contractors until Feb. 15 for construction work at New Carrollton Station in Maryland.
The project involves work within the existing station and construction of a side platform, and will be coordinated with Amtrak for minimal impact on service, Amtrak officials said in a press release.
The infrastructure work is in preparation for the introduction of Amtrak's new Acela fleet, which is scheduled to begin entering service this year.
The project is necessary to support higher frequency Acela service by expanding the routing options available for high-speed trains in the triple-track territory between Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, which is also heavily used by commuter trains, Amtrak officials said.
Constructed in 1983 as an intermodal facility, the New Carrollton Station is located on the Northeast Corridor and serves Amtrak and Maryland Area Regional Commuter (MARC) trains, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's Metrorail and various bus services.
