Lineage, a global temperature-controlled logistics company, recently broke ground on a new cold storage facility at Prime Pointe Industrial Park near Dallas, a Union Pacific Railroad Focus Site.
UP's Focus Sites offer rail-served access to its network. Prime Pointe is a 3,000-acre development located near four interstate highways and three airports, an ideal site for distribution, warehousing and manufacturing, UP officials said in a press release.
The project serves as the latest example of UP's efforts with Lineage to meet the evolving needs of the cold supply chain, they said. Lineage’s cold-storage footprint with UP includes more than 40 rail-served sites across the central United States, Texas, California and the Pacific Northwest.
Lineage's customers are some of the world’s largest food and beverage producers, retailers and distributors. UP maintains the largest refrigerated box-car fleet in the industry. Its GPS-monitored and temperature-controlled reefer fleet offers up to 37% better thermal protection than refrigerated truck trailers, UP officials said.
Additionally, shippers can move goods more efficiently, with up to 59% more space in a single refrigerated boxcar. Lineage complements this with its private fleet of more than 2,800 refrigerated and insulated boxcars, UP officials said.
“We’re excited to welcome Lineage, a longtime partner of Union Pacific, to Prime Pointe,” said Kenny Rocker, UP executive vice president-marketing and sales. “Focus Sites like this make it easier and faster for businesses to connect to our 23-state network and tap into the efficiencies of rail.”
