In November, Union Pacific Railroad loaded 1,040 coal trains in the Southern Powder River Basin (SPRB) compared with 968 trains in November 2010.
The Class I loaded 96.7 percent of National Coal Transportation Association (NCTA) demand, UP officials said in a weekly coal loading performance report.
In the Colorado/Utah region, the railroad loaded 201 coal trains last month versus 189 in November 2010. The Class I loaded 92.6 percent of NCTA demand.
“Some producers in [the region] are experiencing reduced production related to longwall moves,” UP officials said in the report.
