Rail News: Railroading Supplier Spotlight

Rail supplier news from Brookville, Bombardier, Timken, Swift Rail, RailPlan and Rail Exchange (March 10)

Brookville Equipment Co. last week shipped its new 88-ton diesel-hydraulic yard switching locomotive to the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility. The locomotive, procured by the U.S. Navy and designed and manufactured by Brookville, features a 500-horsepower EPA Tier-3 engine, along with a four-speed transmission and torque convertor.

Bombardier Transportation unveiled the design for its new C30 MOVIA unit for Stockholm's Red Line at the EuraisaRail 2015 conference in Turkey. Featuring a four-by-four seating plan, the new unit is designed to increase the line's transport capacity and comfort.

The Ethisphere Institute recognized Timken Co. as one of the world's most ethical companies for the fifth time. The institute selected more than 130 organizations to receive award, and it based its decision on companies that "foster a culture of ethics and transparency," according to a Timken press release.

Swift Rail Services is changing its name to Allied Track Services Inc. The
change follows the company's acquisition by new President and Chief Executive Officer Dave Malay and a private investment group last year. The company also announced that Andy Jones and Attal Ibrahimi would join its leadership team as chief operating officer and chief financial officer, respectively. Rail industry vets Gary Wolf (TUV Rheinland), Don Bagley (CSX Corp.), and Jamey Craig (PNR RailWorks) serve on an advisory board for the company.

RailPlan International's (RPI) Maryland Area Regional Commuter Mechanical Service was awarded the RPI Award for Safety Excellence as a result of maintaining an injury-free workplace for more than a year.

CORRECTION: A March 5 Rail Supplier news item on Rail Exchange Inc. misidentified Michael Bartolini's title. His correct title is president.
