Bombardier Transportation recently unveiled its newest "very high speed" train at its Vado Ligure site in Italy. Built by Bombardier and its consortium partner AnsaldoBreda of Italy, the Frecciarossa 1000 is the newest member of Bombardier's Zefiro family of high-speed trains. Known as the V300ZEFIRO model, the first train will begin test runs on the rail line between Genoa and Savona. Regular passenger service is slated for early 2015.
CITA Cuenca consortium leader Alstom obtained a $91 million contract from the city of Cuenca, Ecuador, to supply 14 Citadis trams, along with electrification, power supply and system integration for the country's first tramway system.
CTC Inc. has entered into a five-year contract with Fort Worth & Western Railroad to maintain the railroad's grade crossing warning systems and base radios. CTC will maintain crossing signals, dragging equipment detection and other signal equipment.
GE Transportation has named Monish Patolawala vice president and chief financial officer. He has served GE for 18 years. Prior to his new role, he was CFO-lighting and industrial solutions for GE Home & Business Solutions; financial manager, global ops, for GE Power & Water; and CFO-motors and controls for GE Home & Business Solutions.
The Greenbrier Cos. Inc. announced a loss for the third quarter of its fiscal year as well as plans to sell or close eight of its 38 wheel, repair and parts facilities as part of a restructuring. Greenbrier posted a loss of $56 million, or $2.10 per share, in the quarter compared with the year-ago period. The loss included a $72 million non-cash goodwill impairment charge related to the wheels, repair and parts segment. The company delivered 2,500 new rail cars and recorded orders for 5,500 cars during the third quarter.
Holland Co. L.P. has promoted Russ Gehl to the post of North American sales manager-MOW. Gehl joined Holland in April 2009 with responsibility for Union Pacific Railroad and CN-U.S. In his new role, he will be responsible for working with the MOW sales team to reach and exceed Holland's growth goals for existing and new products throughout the continent.
