Alstom and Norske recently announced the first Coradia Stream train for the Nordics regional service has arrived in Norway for testing. Each train will be tested, validated and adapted to operational requirements. The Coradia Stream train for the Nordics has already undergone extensive testing in Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic, Alstom and Norske officials said in a press release. In winter, the train will undergo tests in the mountains to analyze operations in extreme Norwegian conditions. Norske has ordered 45 Coradia trains for commuter and regional operations as part of a frame agreement to purchase 200 new trains.
Alstom also won a contract from Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. to design, manufacture, supply, test and commission 96 Metropolis metro cars for the Chennai Metro Phase II project in India. Alstom will manufacture 32 metro trainsets (in three-car configurations) and provide 15 years of post-warranty maintenance services. The Metropolis trains will be designed in India at Alstom’s engineering center in Bengaluru and be built in Sri City. Each trainset is designed to accommodate about 900 passengers in a three-car configuration.
Stadler landed a contract from the city of Gotha, Germany, to provide four TRAMLINK trams, with an option for six additional vehicles. Delivery is anticipated in mid-2027. The five-car, bi-directional TRAMLINK trams will feature low floors and space for up to 180 passengers. Stadler also unveiled its RS ZERO vehicle for the first time in Central Europe at an event in the Czech Republic. The train is designed to operate on both hydrogen and battery power. Only 35% of the Czech Republic’s rail network is electrified and the other lines are served by old diesel vehicles that need to be replaced, Stadler officials said in a press release.
Intramotev announced Stephen Farmen, a retired U.S. Army general, has joined the company as a senior adviser. Farmen has more than 30 years of service in the Army, where he rose to the rank of two-star general. His command positions included the U.S. Army Military Surface Deployment and Distribution, Joint Munitions and the U.S. Army Security Assistance commands. His expertise in logistics, military operations and defense transportation will help support efforts to expand Intramotev’s capabilities to serve government and defense customers, company officials said in a press release. Intramotev manufactures battery-electric rail cars.
