The National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association's (NRC) annual auction last week resulted in 200 pieces of equipment sold for a record $1.3 million.

The event was held April 14 in Little Rock, Ark., and was "heavily attended," NRC officials said in a press release.

Equipment sold ranged from hydraulic tools and 6700 production tampers to grapple trucks, tie inserters and anchor machines.

"Equipment prices were varied, with the typical auction surprises on both the high and low side, but overall were reasonable and reflected a healthy market for used and rehabilitated railroad construction and maintenance equipment," NRC officials said.

The NRC receives 3 percent of the value of the auction sales.

Along with consignments from dozens of contractors, suppliers and railroads, the auction also featured donations from Balfour Beatty Rail, Encore Rail Systems and Railway Equipment Services. All proceeds from the donations go to the NRC safety and education training program, association officials said.
