New York Regional Rail settles yard-dumping suit

Yesterday, New York Regional Rail Corp. (NYRR) announced it settled a suit with Jersey City, N.J., which claimed the company was dumping hazardous materials at its Greenville, N.J., yard.

NYRR agreed to finish testing fill in the last two remaining acres of its more than 27-acre yard, and sponsor "Earth Day" events in Jersey City focusing on ecology and environmental improvements.

"To date, all samples taken [and tested]… have supported the company's contention that no hazardous or toxic dumping took place in the Greenville yard," NYRR officials said in a prepared statement.

NYRR owns and operates rail-barge service provider New York Cross Harbor Railroad and trucking firm JS Transportation.
