Eco Material Technologies has opened its first plant in the Pacific Northwest, and one that will be served by a short line.

A marketer of supplementary cementitious materials and producer of green cement products in North America, Eco Material yesterday unveiled its plant in Lakeview, Oregon. The facility is designed to produce up to 300,000 tons of low-carbon cement replacements annually.

The plant will be served by Goose Lake Railway LLC, which is owned, managed and operated by Nexxt Rail LLC. The short line has a contractual operating agreement with the rail line’s owner, Lake County, which is located in southern Oregon. Goose Lake Railway operates 55 miles of track from Lakeview to Alturas California, and an additional 50 miles of track to Perez, California, where it interchanges with Union Pacific Railroad.

About 75% of shipments involving the plant will be distributed by rail using existing infrastructure, Eco Material officials said in a press release.

"The opening of the Lakeview plant demonstrates our commitment to sustainable innovation and marks a significant step forward in expanding access to domestically produced, low-carbon cement alternatives," said Grant Quasha, the company’s CEO.

In late April, Eco Material opened the Blissville Rail Terminal in Queens, New York, that supplies 50,000 tons of harvested fly ash annually to the New York City metro market. The terminal is served by the New York & Atlantic Railway, which is owned by Anacostia Rail Holdings.
