In June, the Transportation Services Index (TSI) reached 110.3, up 1.7 percent compared with May’s level and 3.8 percent vs. the June 2010 index, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS).

June’s Freight TSI of 108.3 rose 2.6 percent vs. May, the largest month-over-month gain since November 2009 and first increase after declines in April and May. On a year-over-year basis, the Freight TSI rose 4.1 percent.

June’s Passenger TSI of 115.7 dipped 0.5 percent compared with May’s index, but climbed 2.8 percent from June 2010’s level.

In the second quarter, the TSI inched up 0.5 percent — the index’s eighth-straight quarterly gain — Freight TSI fell 0.2 percent and Passenger TSI rose 2.3 percent.
