GWI's new Canadian subsidiary to serve Quebec iron-ore mine
advertisement
Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (GWI) and newly formed subsidiary Western Labrador Rail Services recently reached a long-term agreement to provide rail services to Consolidated Thompson Iron Mines Ltd. subsidiary Bloom Lake Railway Co. (BLRC) in Canada.
Part of GWI's Canada Region, Western Labrador Rail Services will haul unit trains of iron ore on BLRC’s soon-to-be-built 19-mile line from Consolidated Thompson’s Bloom Lake mine in Quebec to Wabush, Labrador. Iron ore then will move over two other railroads to Consolidated Thompson’s port facilities in Pointe-Noire for export, primarily to Asian markets.
BLRC expects to complete the line in the first quarter and begin iron ore shipments shortly thereafter.
