Cubic installs fare-collection system in Australia

Australian transit authority TransLink recently began rolling out the first phase of an integrated ticketing and revenue management system provided by Cubic Transportation Systems Inc.

In 2003, TransLink — which operates transit service in Queensland — awarded a contract to Cubic to design, build, operate and maintain the smart card-based ticketing system. During the program’s first phase, Cubic will install automatic fare collection technology — including central computer and back office systems, ticket vending machines, fare gates and rail ticket office terminals — at five rail stations.

The system ultimately will enable passengers to use a single smart card for the region’s various transportation services.
