Report: SANBAG to study rail access to LA/Ontario airport

The San Bernardino Associated Governments' (SANBAG) board agreed last week to spend $584,000 to study ways to provide rail access to the LA/Ontario International Airport, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.

The board awarded a contract to HDR Engineering Inc. of Riverside, Calif., to conduct the two-year study, the newspaper reported.

Although long-term plans include airport access through a transit center that could provide connections to Metrolink, the Gold Line and California's future  high-speed rail line, the study would examine ways to transport passengers via rail sooner, said SANBAG board member and Ontario Councilman Alan Wapner, according to the report.

"My goal has always been to be the first airport in southern California with a rail connection," he said.
