Valley Metro CEO Banta becomes secretary, treasurer for southwest transit association

Valley Metro Chief Executive Officer Stephen Banta has been named secretary and treasurer of the South West Transit Association (SWTA) for the 2013 term.

As secretary and treasurer, Banta will serve on the association's executive committee and present financial reports to the board and members, Valley Metro officials said in a prepared statement.

Banta's "experience and wisdom" leading a multi-modal, multi-city organization will be an asset to the board and members, said SWTA Executive Director Kristen Joyner.

"Transit is becoming more essential for all communities, whether urban or rural, and it's exciting to be a part of that progression," said Banta.

SWTA is a regional association representing public transit agencies in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
