New Jersey Transit resumes Gladstone Branch service

On Monday, New Jersey Transit began operating all rail lines at full or modified service on the Gladstone Branch of the Morris and Essex Lines for the first time since operations were suspended due to damage caused last month by Hurricane Sandy.

"This is a major milestone reached in our state's continuing, post-Sandy recovery. With the restoration of service on the Gladstone Branch, every one of our rail lines is now offering either limited or full service to our customers," said Transportation Commissioner and NJ Transit Chairman James Simpson in a prepared statement.

On the Gladstone Branch, crews replaced five catenary poles that snapped during the storm, reinstalled more than five miles of overhead wire, removed 49 fallen trees from track, and repaired signals, switches and other infrastructure.
