Metrolink reports ridership record for Thanksgiving weekend

Metrolink posted record ridership during the Thanksgiving holiday. The commuter railroad transported 4,449 riders on Thanksgiving Day, up 36 percent compared with the holiday a year ago when it operated the same number of trains, Metrolink officials said in a prepared statement.

On Thanksgiving, the railroad operated a Sunday schedule offering 20 trains on the San Bernardino and Antelope Valley lines. Regular service resumed the day after Thanksgiving, when Metrolink posted a record 15,019 boardings, up from 13,350 on the same day in 2011.

This year, the agency allowed riders to use an extended $10 weekend pass starting on Wednesday of the Thanksgiving weekend.
