BART awards $15 million on-call construction management contract

San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit April 2 awarded Earth Tech, a business unit of Tyco International Inc., a five-year, $15 million contract to provide ongoing engineering support services for BART’s $1.1 billion system-wide renovation and seismic-retrofit program.

BART awarded its first contract to Earth Tech in 1992; the company since has aided the transit agency with more than 100 individual projects, including facility expansion and renovation, constructability studies, tunnel ventilation, concrete deterioration studies, energy retrofit, asbestos abatement and project design — including work on the 95-mile system’s original design.

Work under the current contract is expected to begin in late spring.
