On Jan. 6, GO Transit plans to add two weekday trains to its new Mount Joy station in Markham, Ontario.
One morning and one afternoon late rush-hour train will be extended beyond Markham station to Mount Joy, which opened in December with three rush-hour trains in each direction. A new fourth-morning train will leave the station at 8:37 a.m; a new evening train will arrive at 7:15 p.m.
"Making transit more convenient is key to attracting more riders," Transportation Minister Norm Sterling said in a prepared statement.
GO Transit carries more than 43 million passengers a year, linking Toronto with the surrounding "Golden Horseshoe" regions. Last year, the Ontario Government resumed control of GO Transit as part of a 10-year, $3.25 billion transit plan.
