The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) logged 8.4 million riders in May, down 1.5 percent from May 2009's count. However, both MAX light-rail service and WES commuter-rail service posted gains.
TriMet registered 770,150 weekly MAX trips, up 9.9 percent. Weekday MAX trips jumped 11.9 percent to 120,500 and weekend trips rose 3.3 percent to 167,700. Gains were driven, in part, by the opening of the Green Line, TriMet officials said.
WES weekly ridership rose 6.8 percent to a total of 6,300 trips and weekday trips also rose 6.8 percent to 1,260 trips.
