The municipal transport authorities of Vienna, Austria, Sept. 13 ordered 25 six-car metro trains valued at $186.5 million from a Siemens Transportation Systems-led consortium, which also included Bombardier Transportation and Elin.

The trains are expected to be among the first build on the basis of the Mo.Mo modular product concept Siemens developed; a prototype has been operating on the Vienna Underground since April 2001. Each train will have a 900-passenger capacity.

Deliveries are scheduled to begin in early 2005; Siemens expects all trains to be in service by the end of 2008.
