Connecticut Department of Transportation (CDOT) and other government officials recently marked the official opening of an expanded parking lot at the Branford Shore Line East station.
The $5.4 million project, which began two years ago, was funded with federal stimulus dollars and $400,000 in state money, CDOT officials said in a prepared statement.
“Parking availability is one of the biggest headaches for Connecticut rail commuters, and this project will go a long way toward alleviating some of that aggravation,” Acting CDOT Commissioner James Redeker said.
The project added 272 parking spaces to the lot, which previously had 199 spaces.
Shore Line East is a commuter-rail line between Union Station in New Haven and New London, Conn. About 500,000 riders use the line annually.
